Visiting ‘Cousins’ Dobbin and Kate

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Gina, Dob, Kate, Flora Today Flora and I went shopping in Davis Square, where I managed to get a parking ticket for forgetting to pay the meter. They really oughta do a gimme for drivers with mommy brain.

After shopping, we stopped by to visit her ‘cousins’ Dobbin and Kate (and their Mommy Gina). Big cousin Dob held Flora for the first time, and he did a very good job. And Flora showed off her new trick of turning her head from side to side, over and over again.

Flora’s Thumb

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

Thumb Sucking Fascinated by her hands (which often causes her to go cross eyed), Flora found her thumb in the bathtub last night, slid it in her mouth, and promptly started sucking. Her other fingers kept getting in the way of keeping it there, and after a few more attempts, she decided her binky is SO much easier. We weren’t able to snap a decent photo, but we did capture the event on video. Hopefully Marty can figure out how to incorporate it here on the blog.

Flora also likes to hold her hands over her eyes when she’s falling asleep. Turns out she is more like her Dad than I thought, who sleeps with a pillow covering his head. Apparently Grandpa David does the same thing, so it must be a Hergert gene — she’ll probably put maple syrup AND peanut butter on her waffles, pancakes, and french toast, too!

Urban Babies Wear Black

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Pensive Reading Urban babies *do* wear black … at least until the bib goes on! As you can see, Flora has also taken to reading books that match her outfits (never let it be said that this kid can’t accessorize!). This book tells Flora all about what urban babies do … wear black, do yoga, visit galleries, jog, drink latte, enjoy architecture, appreciate fine dining, attend the opera, and take taxis! She’s still on page one, but we plan to bring her to the Museum of Fine Arts to see the David Hockney exhibit soon!

PMS 534

Monday, March 6th, 2006

HeyThere Today I determined that Flora’s eyes are shades of PMS 534 (that’s the Pantone Matching System, a system to identify printer inks). The color is a slightly purplish gray-blue.

Another day I’ll determine the CMYK value (that’s percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black that mix together to make up color). Hey, what do you expect from an unemployed designer?

Oh, and her hair is getting lighter and lighter, and there looks to be traces of blonde (!) coming in!

All My Hats

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Pink Flower Hat If you look through my latest flickr photos, you’ll see me in all my hats — I have 17 in all!

Some are knit, some are cotton … some are big, some are small … some are fancy, some are plain … and some are just plain silly!

As you can imagine, it was hard work striking all these poses! How does Gisele manage?

Grandpa David and Grandma Vicki

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Dad and Vicki's Visit My Grandpa David and Grandma Vicki came for a short visit this past weekend. They showered me with gifts and attention, and even watched me Sunday night while Mom and Dad went to an Oscars party next door (but not before I made an appearance, where Brian held me for the first time). It was great to finally meet them in person!

One day we went to breakfast at Cedar Perk in Melrose and then for a walk around Concord Center, and another night Dad made a one-pot “clam bake” (layers of sausage, potatoes, lobster, clams, and mussels) with seafood from Turner’s. Yum!

Amazon Wish List

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

I put together my very own Amazon Wish List. I love Baby Einstein DVDs and CDs, so I added a bunch of those. I already have the Language DVD and I’m learning my numbers in French and lots of foreign phrases, like “Konnichiwa.”

My Dad thinks that Ed Gorey books are funny, so I added “The Shrinking of Treehorn”.

Check out my list to see what new books, DVDs, CDs, and toys I’m interested in. Here’s a link directly to my wish list and Dad says he’ll post it by my photos link so you can easily find it.

“I’m Alright”

HappyStripes5 Flora’s doing the gopher dance from Caddy Shack.

“I’m alright … Don’t nobody worry ’bout me … You got to gimme a fight … Why don’t you just let me be”

Ah, Kenny Loggins. Whatever happened to him?
