More Sushi, Please

Saturday, August 26th, 2006
Even though she hasn’t started eating fish, Flora loved playing with chopsticks … and what could be better to wear than her sushi bib?

New Kicks

New Kicks 2 Check out the new kicks Gram Kate sent me — old skool stylie just like Daddy … and Jeff Spicoli … used to wear (actually, Dad still has an OP wallet floating around in storage to match!).

The only thing better than shuffling my feet with my new shoes on is taking them off and taking a sniff of the sweet, sweet rubber — delightful!

Creepin’ Crawlers

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Sniffy Face 1 Flora moved up to the Creepin’ Crawlers (7-14 months) play group at the North Suburban Family Network this week. Unfortunately, it was the last class of the summer, so we won’t get a chance to go back until the fall. But Flora had so much fun it might just tied her over.

She got to play with moraccas and stacking cups with her friends — the interaction had Flora squeeling and shouting. She got to clap along to songs while the Mommies sang and signed ASL. She got to sit on a big, red ball while everyone sang and signed “Good Morning to Flora! Good Morning to Flora! Good Morning to Flora! Good Morning to You!” And she got to read along from a GIANT story book before we had to head back home.

Here’s a picture of Flora’s latest — the sniffy face — she scrunches up her nose and breathes in and out several times. Silly!

Breakfast Rolls … Over (and 7 Months Old)

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

This morning when I went into Flora’s room, she was on her belly! That’s right — she rolled over from her back to her belly all by herself, with only her Jingle Jungle Lady Bug Chime bearing witness. By the way, Flora turned 7 months old on Monday, which can only mean it won’t be long until she starts crawling. She’s already lunging forward from a seated position to start the process — yikes!

Munchkin Park

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Yellow Tunnel 3 Today the fam (Aunt Tracy included) went to Munchkin Park in Stoneham. It’s not really called Munchkin Park, but that’s what the little girl who told me where it was called it, and the name stuck. After playing on nearly all the equipment, we got sandwiches to go and made a lunch pitstop at Quannapowitt Lake in Wakefield before bringing Aunt Tracy to the airport. The weather was nearly perfect — mid-70s, sunny, and breezy.

Guess What I Can Do Now?

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Standing Guess what I can do now? Yep, that’s right — I can stand up all by myself! Of course I have to hold onto something, but it’s a start.

I’ve also been known to wave Hello when I’m excited to see someone; give kisses when asked (I’ll hold your face and plant a big, slobbery one); sniff stuff (Did you know that bananas smell really good); and other than Flora, I can understand two words: “drink” and “Sepia.”

Just What’s Inside This Ball?

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Just What's Inside This Ball? Just what’s inside this ball? How did they get it in there? And what keeps it spinning?

It’s all quite fascinating, especially when the morning sun hits it just so.

My new mirror is pretty interesting, too. I can see inside that, as well — but usually I’m in there!

First (Real) Meat

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Nope, there are no pictures of Flora’s first ventures with meat, because after a few forced bites and some very unhappy faces, Flora clenched her lips closed. And this was the good kind of meat — homemade, pureed, free-range, organic chicken breast (i.e. the expensive Whole Foods kind) … mixed with sweet potatoes, apples, and cereal. Even after diluting a little bit of the chicken mixture with more sweet potatoes, Flora would not budge. After many attempts, we gave up and just fed her sweet potatoes, apples, and cereal — which were quickly devoured. I can’t imagine she’s going to like the homemade, pureed, ground beef that’s awaiting her — she might just be a tofu kind of girl!

And The Winner Is …

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Momo Lei Lei Girls Momo — by just one vote. I decided that was way too close of a margin, so we got her the winner and the first runner up, Corolle Doucette Cherry. Upon their first meeting, Flora shouted lots of short, loud HAHs and AHs at the dollies in their boxes. I can’t say she quite gets into playing with them yet, but for now they taste just as good as any of her other toys.

First Movie

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

Tonight my neighbors, Brian and Eric, set up a movie screen on the side of their garage — complete with a state-of-the-art DVD projector and speakers! Dad said it was just like going to the drive in, minus the crowds and uncomfortable seating. I got to watch the first few minutes of King Kong (the remake) before it was time for bed. I didn’t make it to see Kong but I hear he’s pretty big!

Laughing at “Hello” Video

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006
Flora Laughs

Flora got the giggles after she ate some blueberries. All it took was a deep-voiced and drawn out “hello” to get her laughing from the belly.
