Silly Bath

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Silly Bath Marty coiffed the hairstyle and Flora crafted the face to come up with this silly bath picture. Sort of looks like Ed Grimley, huh? Bath time is still one of Flora’s favorite times of day where she enjoys drinking bath water and playing with her bath toys.

Radio Flyer

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

Radio Flyer 3 I took my bran’ spankin’ new Radio Flyer wagon for a spin ’round the ‘hood today. It’s a helluva sweet ride, but I’m gonna trick it out with some 18″ Giovannis this summer. Mad props to GD and GV for the dope present.

My First Christmas

Monday, December 25th, 2006

Let em at 'em! Will you just look at all my loot?! Now this is what Christmas is all about … presents! Well, I guess food, too. And I kind of like those Christmas carols. Oh, and friends and family.

Thank you to everyone who sent their holiday wishes — and I wish you all a happy holiday season, too!

Skating at the Frog Pond

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

Marty, Flora, and Amy at Frog Pond Grandpa David and Grandma Vicki came for a visit to celebrate my first Christmas. So between naps, Dad took us all to Boston Commons to skate on the Frog Pond. Grandpa David, Mom, and I hung out on the sidelines while Grandma Vicki and Dad took to the ice. What a fun way to celebrate Christmas Eve! I heard that Santa is coming tonight, and I think I’ve been a good girl, so I’m hoping to get lots of presents!

More

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Finally, after months of trying on our end, Flora made the ASL sign for more! All it took was a little taste of hot, buttered toast and her longing for … more. We’re hoping the more sign will replace her usual pointing and grunting, at least her pointing and grunting while eating. Now if we could just figure out how to phase out the pointing and grunting altogether.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why my posts are few and far between these days, it’s because Flora is crawling and exploring all over the place and I can’t take my eyes off of her for a second!

11 Months Old

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

11 Months OldToday I turned 11 months old and Daddy says I turned into a little girl right before his eyes. Just the other day Mom and Dad thought they could leave me in the living room to watch Baby Einstein for a few minutes while they ate dinner. Little did they know I would quickly maneuver myself over to the doorway and peer out at them over the threshold. “Hey, I know you people have food in there!”

Yesterday I learned uh-oh — I say “Uh-Uh” and put my hand over my mouth, but I’m still not exactly sure what it means. I definitely know “Cah!” is cat and can point out a cat no problem, though I prefer to just lean over and give the cat a kiss. I say “Dah” for dog and Daddy and “Ba” for bird. Yes, I sure do like animals.

My new favorite book is Baby Faces — when Mom reads me the Boo-hoo page I try to give her my binky — it always makes me feel better.

First Word

Saturday, December 9th, 2006

We were all set to declare Flora’s first word as “Cah!” when on separate occasions (the first being last Sunday) she pointed to a cat on her Baby Einstein DVD and said “Cah!,” she pointed to a cat in her First Words book and said “Cah!,” she pointed to the bag of cat treats on the counter and said “Cah!,” and she pointed to the actual cat and said “Cah!” And not surprising since she’s been tickled pink by Sepia and all things cat, including the “Meow” sound, since she was little. But I think we got so excited every time she said “Cah!” that now everything is “Cah!” Dad is “Cah!” Mom is “Cah!” Light is “Cah!” The Christmas tree is “Cah!” Despite these mistaken identities, “Cah!” is the first word she said with a definitive point and declaration, so for the baby book, we’re going with “Cah!”

She seems to understand a new word or phrase each day. Next time you see her, ask her “Where’s your belly?,” Where’s your tongue?,” or “Where’s your foot?”

Meahwhile, Flora is getting the hang of crawling. On Thursday she crawled nearly 2 feet on her hands and knees for her sitter, Katherine. And since then she’s been going four or five crawling “steps” before flopping down on her belly to finish the task commando style. She’s already mastered sitting herself up, which is great when she accidentally falls over, but not so great when we want her to lie down and take a nap. She can drink from a straw all by herself. And she loves to give pictures and stuffed animals kisses, but just try to get one for yourself.

Picking Out My First Christmas Tree

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

Picking Out A Christmas Tree Today I picked out my first Christmas tree — a little Balsam Fir from Calareso’s Farm Stand in Reading. Mom and Dad already set it up in the living room, and as soon as I get up from my afternoon nap, I’m going to scooch over there and get into it. Picking out a Christmas tree is fun and tiring — see the link below.

By the way, I can correctly identify all of these things (and more!): tiger, doggy, kitty cat (I even mimic Kih Kah), ball, block, book, binky, pig, monkey, bear, light, frog, sock, shoe, teeth, and duck. And I know hair, eye, nose, mouth, and ear are all on the face somewhere. But usually when I’m asked “Where’s Mom?” or “Where’s Dad?” I look up at the light. Hey, I’m still learning.
