15 Month Checkup

15th Month Visit

And in this corner, weighing in at 23 pounds, 10 ounces … and standing at 31.5″ high … the middleweight queen of her world … Flora “The Bonks” Hergert.

Despite a heart-wrenching cry during her shots, Flora fared well at her 15 month checkup with Dr. G. She ranked 79% for height (a .75″ gain from her last visit) and 61% for weight (a 2 pound gain from her last visit), again making her a well-proportioned kiddo. She’s already surpassed the 18-month criteria for talking (20 words), but of course would only say one of her words (Hi) to the doctor. She met all her 15 month milestones (using a utensil, manipulating objects, etc.). And although she’s taking her sweet time with walking, Dr. G could tell that Flora has her very own agenda. It’s truly amazing how much personality is packed into such a small person.

If the Glove Don’t Fit …

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Glove3 Flora had fun playing with her gardening gloves this afternoon. Turned out the glove really didn’t fit — and she even tried her feet!

It was another warm day in Boston, and in between trips up and down the driveway with her walker, pit stops at the playground (she can climb up the slide stairs now!) , and stroller rides around the neighborhood, Flora created some sidewalk art with her new chalk and hung out in the back yard.

Lake Quannapowitt Playground

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Swinging 3 Finally, a warm and sunny spring day in Massachusetts! We donned Flora with a new spring outfit (including new walking shoes from her Nana Swan and some very stylish sunglasses) and headed to Lake Quannapowitt. After a short stroller ride along the lake, we recreationalized at the playground, where Flora enjoyed swinging the best. After a few turns on the slide and posing for some photos here and there, we headed out for an early lunch at The Omelette Headquarters, which is housed in an old train depot station.

This is Flora’s “wow” face, and she makes is a lot. She’s adding so many new words to her vocabulary I can’t keep up: “Kawsh” for Kashi, her sitter’s nickname, “egg,” “hay,” “go-fshh” or “go-go-go” for goldfish (as in those yummy cheese crackers), “boon” for balloon, “sheesh” for cheese, “cah cah,” “up” and “Amy,” though she doesn’t know I am Amy — she can just say it.

Good Mornin’ Turkey

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

It's Bright OutsideGood mornin’ birds. Good mornin’ squirrels. Good mornin’ trees. Good mornin’ turkey. Yes, that would be a turkey. After going for a walk yesterday, my sitter, Katherine, and I spotted a turkey in our driveway. It ran through the back yard and flew up on to our neighbor’s garage. Turkeys are big. If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the slideshow below.

15 Months Old

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Play House Dad took me to the playground today to see if I could do any new tricks now that I am a whole 15 months old. So, I peered out of the play house while my bear guarded the side entrance, pushed the shopping cart across the grass, and then passed out in my stroller on the way home. Mom says sleeping in the stroller *is* a new trick, as I have not done that in months and months! Plus, I ate green beans for Dad twice today — I never eat those for Mom.

And, I’ve added a few new words to my vocab: “bahl” (ball), “burr” (bird), and “cahr” (car), but my standouts are still hi, bye-bye, baby, shhh, and cat.

One Small Step for Flora

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Tonight Flora stood herself right up in the middle of the floor and took one step forward with her right foot before falling on her behind. She’s taken lots of steps using her walker, pushing a chair, cruising in between furniture, holding someone’s hands, etc. … but this is the first time she’s made a brave and solo attempt at walking. Look out world!

Happy Easter!

Opening Eggs

The Easter Bunny came last night and left me a trail of eggs with treats inside! I had fun scouting out all the hiding spots and stopping to sample a treat or two. When I found the very last egg, I discovered a Hanna’s Handiworks pail filled with more surprises. And even though it is cold outside, Mom made me wear an Easter dress, new shoes, and the poncho and bonnet that Great Grandma Eleanor knitted for me for Christmas. Of course my inner fashionista didn’t mind at all. Happy Easter, everyone!

Saturday Morning at the Donut Shop

Taking a Bite

Mom and Dad took me on a Saturday morning trip to Kane’s Donuts in Saugus for my first taste of Homer’s favorite food. Kane’s is famous for their colossal coffee rolls and honey-dipped donuts. The place was busy because they bake pies and cakes and people were picking their’s up for Easter tomorrow. I bought a whole bag of donuts and got to sample a bunch. My favorite was the soft and gooey honey-dipped and the crunchy apple fritter. The plain donuts were a bit too crumbly and hard but still tasty. I said hi to lots of people and showed off my cat and binky to customers waiting in line, including a police officer. What a good time!

When I got back home, I accomplished a new trick — pushing myself up to standing right from the floor! And I’m getting real good at cruising. But I’m taking my own sweet time to get to walking.

Animal Cracker

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Animal Cracker Here, want a bite? April Fool’s! This animal cracker is all mine. And now that my top, right tooth has broken through, I’m gonna chew it all up for good measure.

I’m feeling much better, thank you. But … I’m thinking about rearranging my schedule these days— two naps are just too many but one isn’t quite enough, so Mom has to figure out a new routine. I like to keep her on her toes.
