Saturday Morning at the Donut Shop

Taking a Bite

Mom and Dad took me on a Saturday morning trip to Kane’s Donuts in Saugus for my first taste of Homer’s favorite food. Kane’s is famous for their colossal coffee rolls and honey-dipped donuts. The place was busy because they bake pies and cakes and people were picking their’s up for Easter tomorrow. I bought a whole bag of donuts and got to sample a bunch. My favorite was the soft and gooey honey-dipped and the crunchy apple fritter. The plain donuts were a bit too crumbly and hard but still tasty. I said hi to lots of people and showed off my cat and binky to customers waiting in line, including a police officer. What a good time!

When I got back home, I accomplished a new trick — pushing myself up to standing right from the floor! And I’m getting real good at cruising. But I’m taking my own sweet time to get to walking.

A “True Brittingham!” Nothing could get me out of bed quicker than a glazed donut! Except ours were 60 cents a dozen! That included carmel bizmarks (Southern Mo. word for “Long Johns” ) Next thing you know your Dad will be setting up the grill in the living and cranking out Grilled Cheese Sandwiches at midnight like your Great Papa Brittingham taught him.
