Flora Being Silly

Flora’s buddy Mackenzie turned two and we got to go to her Mickey Mouse themed birthday party this weekend. All of Flora’s favorite party fare was present and accounted for: cake, ice cream, and juice boxes … not to mention several of her other pals, a big sandbox, a tea table, and lots of fun kid stuff to play with!

Flora Plays Peek-A-Boo

Our old friends John, Kristine, and Kaes came over on Saturday for a visit during their recent trip back to the East coast. Flora and Kaes met for the very first time and had tons of fun playing in the dress up suitcase, building block towers, and eating Indian food. Naan was their favorite!

Sushi Roll

Tonight I made some avocado (“ahv-CAH-doh”) and cucumber sushi rolls to share with Flora. She liked picking out the middles and dipping them into the sauce. Yesterday we scraped ourselves off the living room floor (we all came down with bad colds) and walked to Candy Castle, an old-fashioned candy store in Melrose Highlands, where Flora got to pick out just what she wanted. Her favorite? Gold chocolate coins.

Marty and Flora Carousel 2

We stopped in town to partake in the Melrose Victorian Fair where we ran in to Flora’s pal Henry and his parents, Dawn and Mark. Flora liked all the balloons and free swag, and of course riding the carousel.

Pooped 2

We had so much fun dancing along to Jon Songs, playing on the indoor climbers, and gorging on birthday cake and juice boxes at Rosie’s Dora-themed second birthday party, that I didn’t have much energy left for the playground outside!

Flora Laughs

20 months old means I’m only 4 months away from turning two years old — can you believe it? I got to spend the day at school playing with my friends and my new favorite teacher, Mallory. And speaking of two, my big “cuz” Seneca came down to play with me on Saturday. We took turns riding my Fisher Price zebra, sharing bears, and playing with babies. I got to stay up real late (8:00PM!) and by the end of the night, Seneca wanted to take me home with her, but Aunt Hanna wasn’t up for adding number three to her family.

Simpsonized

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Marty, Amy, and Flora on the For Amy’s birthday, I turned us all into Simspons characters — try it for yourself at www.simpsonsmovie.com. Then we headed into Melrose Center for dinner at the newly reopened and longley anticipated Stearns and Hill Bistro. Flora had fun getting into everything on the table and fishing out ice from our water glasses with our forks.

Outside Our Cape House

We managed to squeeze in a few activities between regular trips to the beach, biking, and eating. One morning, we went to The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History to see all kinds of taxidermied animals, a real-live bee hive, and lots of sea life in the aquariums. Afterwards, we took a walk on the John Wing Trail along the grounds, but I was so pooped I fell asleep on Dad’s shoulder! One afternoon, we visited the Stonybrook Grist Mill, the site of America’s first water powered mill. There was lots of herring swimming in the river. One evening, we went to Drummer Boy Park for an outdoor concert, conveniently situated next to a big playground. We also went shopping (my favorite stores were the Village Toy Store and the Brewster Book Store), and on our only rainy day, we visited the Brewster Ladies’ Library. Phew, no wonder I’ve been sleeping so well!
