Almost 40 Weeks

40 Weeks

Almost 40 weeks and still nothing doing. Tomorrow, the 15th, is the official due date, as well as Father’s Day, so if this little stinker comes through, Marty will be getting quite the present.

Slide

Flora and I try to keep busy on our “Mommy and Fu” days — the Mondays and Fridays we are home together. Our pals Dawn and Henry are always up for some fun, and today we met them at the Pine Street Playground. Henry spent most of his time on the swings, Flora spent most of hers on the climber and slide, and Dawn and I snuck in moments here and there to chat. Unfortunately, the toddlers never pose long enough together to snap a photo of the two of them. Dawn and Henry are on call for when I go into labor, and Flora is hoping to score another sleep over!

Dear Amy

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Here is a very sweet note from my friend Michelle called: Dear Amy — I’m wishing we lived closer and sending back lots of love! And yes, that’s me in the upper right hand corner and Michelle in the lower left hand corner of the class photo!

Still Nothing New to Report

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’m 39.4 weeks today (or 40.1 weeks based on the ultrasounds), still 2 cm dilated, and have nothing new to report. Apparently this little stinker didn’t get the memo that he/she was supposed to arrive early. I’m scheduled to have my weekly non-stress test and a fluid check on Sunday, June 15th at 4PM … if all looks well, Dr. Wu will see me Thursday, June 19th and schedule an induction … if not, she’ll induce me right then and there, I think. She said an induction can be hard on the Mom and make labor lengthy, so I begged off from scheduling one today in hopes I will just go into labor naturally.

39.2 Weeks

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Or, 39.6 weeks if you go by tomorrow’s ultrasound due date. In any event, here’s hoping technology triumphs. I am now carrying the equivalent of a small watermelon, although in this heat wave, nothing feels small about it. I bet this kid knows it’s miserably hot out here, and prefers to stay inside. If he/she doesn’t appear in the next couple of days, I imagine my OB will schedule an induction when I see her on Thursday — I am prepared to beg!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Pop--Ice

Killing time until Mommy “pops,” we licked today’s almost 90 degree temperatures with a swimsuit, a kiddie pool, a garden hose, and some pop-ice. The next few days are going to be equally as hot — and sure to bring on Mommy’s active labor!

Flora’s Toddler Progress Report

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Flora received her Toddler Progress Report yesterday at school — it outlines her development in areas such as gross and fine motor skills; language; and cognitive/social/emotional advancements. Her teacher Michelle writes, “… Flora displays effective conversational skills and enjoys pointing, talking, and turning pages when reading … She creatively uses objects for purposes other than intended … She is a well-adjusted toddler and enjoys doing art projects, reading stories, and taking care of the baby dolls … And she asserts independence by using “no” a lot. Huh, so that is what she’s doing when she screams “NOOOOOOO!” I thought she was just being a brat.

38.5 Weeks

38.5 Weeks

Lovely, I know. But this is what 38.5 weeks of pregnancy does to your belly. Right now, the baby should weigh about 6.8 pounds (in our case, I’m sure it is well over 6.8 pounds) and measures about 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). I am now 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced, and Dr. Wu “swept my membranes” to keep moving things along. Currently, everyone who submitted baby predictions is still in the running — the first submissions are dated Friday, June 6th.

Baby Feed

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Many friends and family have called to check in on the progress of baby Number Two this week. Though all is quiet now, we anticipate the real deal will happen very soon. So, to keep you all informed, I created a feed at a site called Twitter that I can use to post up-to-the-minute notes about the labor and delivery from my cell phone. You can follow along on the Web by viewing the Twitter page (username: dmhergert), placing the RSS feed in something like iGoogle or NetVibes (feed readers), or signing up for your own Twitter account and getting emails or text messages each time I post an update.

Kissing Baby

At a playdate’s at Raessler’s house this morning, Flora practiced being a Big Sister in between playing in the sandbox, hiding in the climber, and eating a big snack at the table.

Sleepover at Seneca’s, Chapter Deux

Seneca + Flora = Goofballs 2

Mom is ever so grateful — not only did Aunt Hanna and Seneca have me for an overnight sleepover … they picked me up and dropped me off! We had so much fun playing tea party, digging in the flower pots, and playing with dollies. Mom says going to Aunt Hanna’s is like going to a Grandma’s — all the special treats and sweets you can stomach. I love it! Mom cut these flowers for Hanna from our yard to say thanks, guys!
