With winter just around the corner, and chilly autumn nights already upon us, the kids busted out their matching fleece jammies this weekend. And in case those aren’t enough to keep them toasty warm, our neighbor Sue hand-made these super soft and cozy matching fleece blankets! But don’t be fooled by their sweet interaction. Usually Flora is pinching, pulling, and poking Charley — happy faces are only about 10% of our actual lives — the other 90% is full of tantrums, whining, no-napping, crying, and lots of general noncompliance. Just who are those families in the Pottery Barn catalogs anyway?

Saturday, October 4th, 2008And after decorating the house, we met Hanna and Seneca at Parlee Farm in Tyngsboro for some apple picking. Apparently everyone else in Massachusetts had the same idea, so we bagged the long wait for apple picking, waited for fresh-made donuts and cider instead, then walked through the hay maze, checked out the farm animals, and picked out some pumpkins. And like any good pumpkin should, Charley the Pumpkin rolled over from his tummy to his back for the very first time today! And he can almost sit up, too!
Spooky Stuff!
Saturday, October 4th, 2008We decorated the house for Halloween with a few pumpkins here and a few leaves there, but best of all, a BIG spider and spider web outside … plus a skull, pumpkins, and a “boing boing”! More spooky pics to come this Halloween!
Jesus! And One More Sniff.
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008After dropping Marty off at the Orange Line this morning, I stopped to let a left-turner go in front of me. He just sat there, then waived on another left-turner positioned across from him. Then he just sat there some more, before finally turning. I said, “Go! Go! Go!” … and then, “Jesus!” Flora chimed in from the back seat, “Jesus is at Christmas time, Mommy.”
Flora likes to have two binkies … one in her mouth and one in her hand, the latter which she rubs under her nose. We are down to one “good” mouth binky (the orange Nuk) and two old nose binkies (a yellow Mam and a red Mam). The other morning, we couldn’t find the orange binky before school, so I said to Flora,”You’ll just have to take your red binky.” She replied, “No, that’s my sniffy one!”
This morning Flora had both binkies in the car at drop off. I said, “Let’s put this one [the red one] down here for later.” Flora said, “No, I need one more sniff!” So I handed it to her, she sniffed, then said with delight, “I took two sniffs!”
So yes, the moral of these stories are that binkies ARE just like cocaine, and my daughter is clearly an addict. Thank goodness Charley won’t even touch his!

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008Return Legs
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008See what can happen when you leave a toddler unattended for a few minutes? I’m sure this is not what the Humane Society had in mind when they sent me all those return labels. Well, at least we had the comfort of knowing that if Flora should get lost this day, she could easily be returned back home.
