From The Mouths of Babes

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Flora is playing with her dollies.
Me: “Flora, what’s your baby’s name?”
Flora: “Ed. Wait. Let me check the tag.”
Flora checks the tag.
Flora: “Made in Chinese. That’s her name. Chinese.”

Speaking of Chinese, Flora has been enjoying episodes of Ni Hao, Kai-lan on Nick, Jr., and has been talking to us in Chinese. We have no idea if she’s saying actual Chinese words, or if she’s making them up, but they sure sound authentic.

After making Charley dinner, then Flora’s, then Marty’s.
Marty: “What happened to ordering Chinese food?”
Me: “Apparently they are closed on Mondays. So Mommy doesn’t get to have her Chinese food. She just has to make everyone else’s dinner.”
Flora: “Mommy, you’re the best Mommy. All the other Mommies, they are not the best. You are the best Mommy.”

So, some days it IS worth it!

Sunday with Ruby G.

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

We spent the whole day today with Flora’s best buddy from preschool, Ruby G., and her Mom Christine. In the morning, they came over for a play date and picnic lunch, but we ended up eating inside because it was still a bit windy and overcast outside. In the afternoon, the sun came out, the wind died down, and it turned into a beautiful day, so we met halfway at Nettie’s playground to continue the fun. Flora and Ruby G. are peas-in-a-pod personality-wise (vocal, strong-willed, and authoritative), so in between fighting like sisters, there were some sweeter moments of sharing and caring. It’s all a learning process, I keep reminding myself, and apparently being four is much better than being three — just nine more months then … just nine more months then!
