Saturday, October 30th, 2010We met photographer Jessica Nyiredi at her NESOP studio and got even more amazing pictures of the kids with Gram Kaye, who’s visiting for the week from Kansas City. The theme was “The Midwest” (country and cowboy). More to come!

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010Hiking
Monday, September 6th, 2010Today was another beautiful New England day, so we went for a hike in Whip Hill. We explored the swamp, fallen trees, giant rocks, and the conservatory garden … collected pine cones and sticks … and we’re pretty sure we heard some wild turkeys!
Climbing Tree
Sunday, September 5th, 2010The weather this time of year in New England is the best — seventies, sunny, with just a slight breeze. We took full advantage and went for a picnic on Winchester Commons, where there is a very cool climbing tree.

Monday, July 26th, 2010While Marty and Flora we’re off reunionizing, Charley and I chillaxed around town swimming in the pool, lunching at the coffee shop, and eating ice cream. We even saw a rainbow (not a double rainbow, but still cool).

Marty and Flora headed back to Kansas City for a long weekend and a Hergert family reunion in Ellinwood, Kansas. He’ll have to write about their adventures here, but I wanted to post these pictures over the years in front of their once-upon-a-time dry cleaning shop.

Monday, July 5th, 2010Father’s Day
Sunday, June 20th, 2010Marty likes a home-baked good for Father’s Day, and this year Flora requested to make carrot cake cupcakes. Since they happen to be one of Marty’s favorites (behind brownie sundae and pie), I obliged. This recipe included raisins, toasted pecans, and cream cheese frosting. No one was disappointed. Later, Marty hung our new hammock and snuggled with the kids after playing in the pool. We also let him sleep in, so all in all, I think he had a pretty great Father’s Day!

Thursday, May 27th, 2010It’s been so long since we went to Kansas City that I have forgotten most of what we did! So here’s our ten day trip in short form: Papa took kids for ride in Amma’s new convertible. Spied turtle on dirt road in Kansas. Flora blew dandelions at family cemetery. Charley blew dandelions at family cemetery. Cows. Barn. Sign. Train. Ate Great Uncle Phil’s brisket. Explored green space. Climbed caterpillar. Rode bird. Hugged Great Grandma Eleanor. Looked for caterpillars with Kousin Kloey. Lunched with Gram Kaye at Winstead’s. Shared banana split. Dipped toes in horse fountain. Hugged Plaza penguin statue. Flew with Plaza penguin statue. Ate at Neighbor’s Cafe. Visited dinosaurs at Union Station. Played with Uncle Andrew at Loose Park. Traveled to Africa via the zoo. Visited Cooper and Elliot. Airplane rides. Hugged a tree. Painted at Kaleidescope. Mini golfed. Brunched on Mother’s Day. Ate Fruit Loops. And took a jacuzzi bath.
Kansas City 2010
Saturday, May 1st, 2010This May was our first trip to Kansas City with Charley in tow. We had 10 fun-filled days with lots of activities and even more eating. Blog posts to come, but those who can’t wait to read about our adventures, our entire trip’s worth of photos are below. Yah, its gonna take me a while to blog all of these!
Sweet Faces
Monday, April 5th, 2010Jessica Nyiredi Pictures
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010Our new friend, Jessica Nyiredi, a student at the New England School of Photography, came over on Friday and took some great shots of the kids. Charley wore the vintage sailor jacket from that lot I scored on ebay, and Flora wore everything from a skirt to a tutu to a dress-up dress. Here’s a few of my faves, and the rest can be seen at the link below. Thanks, Jessica!
Flora and Greta
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010There is NO denying that Finn is Flora’s cat (the two are seemingly inseparable and completely tolerable of one another’s antics), but Greta gets in on her action every once in a while. Here Flora is “reading” a Grimm’s fairy tale to Greta during the latter’s nap, and leaning in for a snuggle to boot.

Friday, January 1st, 2010Christmas Morning
Friday, January 1st, 2010Santa came, evidenced by the half-eaten Kris Kringle cookie and empty glass of milk, and left presents … lots of presents. Santa brought Flora everything she asked for (recap: Princess Polly Pockets, a Belle with Carriage, and a Big Ariel), and hands down her favorite gift was the Princess Polly Pockets. Charley got a fire truck with “guys” and a real working hose. The rest of the loot included a wooden road and rail play set and a giant wooden dollhouse from Mom and Dad, and countless toys, games, movies, gift cards, and more from everyone else. The kids were so excited they wanted to play with everything simultaneously — and they did — it took Marty and I DAYS to clean up the living room. Thanks to everyone who thought of us this holiday season!
In The Spirit of Christmas … We Eat!
Friday, January 1st, 2010We had a fun-filled Christmas holiday with visits from Uncle Andrew, Papa, and Amma that included lots and lots of good food. Not to break from our tradition, we had Chinese food for Christmas Eve dinner at Taiwan Cafe in Chinatown (this is Marty’s favorite restaurant in all of Boston!), and started that day with breakfast at Donuts With a Difference in Medford. On another night, we had a seafood feast with fresh fixings from Turner’s in Melrose. And one day we even made a gingerbread house and grazed off of the decorations for days. Not to mention the barrels of cheese and bread from Zingerman’s, the vats of homemade baked ziti, the pizza lunch at the hotel, the prime rib dinner on Christmas night, and Indian food from Rang in Stoneham … we’ll be starting our diets asap!
