We had just gotten suited up to hit the playground when it started to rain, so we threw a picnic blanket down on the porch and hung out there. Plus, Charley will use any excuse to wear his rain boots — this time it was actually raining.

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011King Of The Castle
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011Hands down my favorite toy when I was little was my Fisher Price Castle, hence why I still have it. It has a secret hiding spot behind the stairs, a hidden door in back of the cave, and a trap door on the floor of the top that leads to the dungeon. Charley has repurposed it for his dinosaurs and Star Wars guys, and sometimes you can even find an astronaut hanging out in there, too. And, sometimes a cat.

Tuesday, March 15th, 20115th Birthday Chair Photos
Saturday, January 15th, 2011If you’ve been a long-time follower of our blog, you know that every birthday we take the kids pictures in their “birthday” chair to see how much they have grown. For her shoot, Flora humored us most of the time, but made sure to throw in a silly face or a frumpy pose every now and again. Somewhere, somehow, during the past year, our baby girl became a “kid” — the only bit of “baby” left is in her chubby cheeks! She’s been working on her reading and writing and drawing (her favorite), is an adventurous eater, and loves to pretend play. Lately she’s been super silly and giggly and loud — loves to be the center of attention. And what we thought was a stage seems to really be a personality trait (generally defiant, opinionated, and stubborn) — and she is definitely in the “more-is-more” camp — we live in fear of her teenage years! But sometimes you can catch her being very sweet, even to her little brother.
Newsletters
Thursday, January 6th, 2011Both Flora and Charley were featured in this month’s school newsletters. I’m still not sure, in Flora’s case, who exactly they are talking about!
“Flora is a wonderful girl full of curiosity and excitement. She always comes in with a smile on her face ready to play and explore with her friends. You can often find Flora coloring and drawing beautiful pictures for her friends & family. Flora says her favorite food is cheese pizza from Mother’s and she also loves to read, Peter Pan.”
“Charley is one of our senior toddler friends. Charley enjoys music, dancing and playing instruments. He loves to make his friends laugh by doing silly things and chasing them like a tiger. Charley likes circle time — flash cards, singing, books and fun. Charley is quick to choose dramatic play (puppets lately) or the sensory table during small group time. Charley knows how to have a good time!”
22 and 23 Months Old
Thursday, May 27th, 2010I think I’ve come down with second child syndrome — I forgot to post Charley’s 22nd (top) and 23rd (bottom) month birthdays! Can I claim better late than never? No? Ah well. Ever since Charley got tubes in his ears, he’s really been talking up a storm, in sentences. “Yarley” (Charley) is quite the “Yaddy’s” (Daddy’s) boy — loves to help Marty in the yard and fix things with tools. He has a selection of creature comforts that he likes to be saddled down with, even at bedtime (big pooh bear, red sailor hat on his head, books, blanky, binky, mousey, sharky, doggy, and pirate pillow!). All of a sudden he has separation anxiety, and cries when we leave him with a sitter and at school. He loves to climb, play chase, wrestle, run, play with balls, spot airplanes and trucks, wear hats and coats (the frog hat above was knitted by Great Grandma Eleanor for Uncle Andrew when he was little, and Charley wouldn’t take it off!), play in the water and sandbox, dance, read stories, and just being outside. On the rare occasion big sister is sweet to him, he basks in her attention. He’s still a happy guy most of the time (he gets really mad when you can’t understand what he wants, or gasp, if he doesn’t get what he wants!), and loves to snuggle and play with hair.
P.S. Today (May 28) Charley woke up from his nap calling, “Amy! Amy! Amy!”

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010Our new friend, Jessica Nyiredi, a student at the New England School of Photography, came over on Friday and took some great shots of the kids. Charley wore the vintage sailor jacket from that lot I scored on ebay, and Flora wore everything from a skirt to a tutu to a dress-up dress. Here’s a few of my faves, and the rest can be seen at the link below. Thanks, Jessica!

Friday, March 26th, 2010Major Brownie Points
Monday, March 1st, 2010Flora earned some MAJOR brownie points with Mom today. At the library, she was kissing me and kissing me on my tummy at the check out desk. Then she says, real loud, “I just can’t stop kissing you I love you so much!” And later, at the coffee shop, after getting compliment nine million and one on her beautiful blue eyes, she says, “Mama, your eyes are not blue, they are brown, but they’re still gorgeous!” I’m going to have to remember these the next time she says, “You’re stupid and I hate you and you can’t come to my birfday pahty or sleep in my bed ever again!”
Daddy’s Girl
Friday, February 26th, 2010Despite the frigid temperatures, Flora insisted on wearing a tank top today — this one. She then picked out a twirly skirt and striped knee-highs, and requested that we play Freeze Dance.
20 Months Old
Saturday, February 20th, 2010Mr. Hooper turned 20 months old on Saturday — and with that now comes the Toddlertude. “No, No, No!” is his default answer to most queries, unless the question involves cookie or candy or swimming, which he absolutely loves. Charley hates to get dressed, get his diaper changed, and go to bed. He talks all the time now, has lots of words, and can repeat any word you ask him to (Flora keyed into this and has been trying to get him to say “dammit” when she thinks we are out of ear shot). This morning he pointed to a number 5 and said “E.” Close! And the other day when I was counting to three during “Statue” (that’s where we freeze and try not to move or talk, but Flora loses in about a half a second by giggling), I said, “One…” and Charley said “Twooo.” All this time he’s been absorbing! And finally he and Flora are starting to play together. Last weekend they played Flora’s favorite game, “Doggie,” where she ties a scarf to her waist and pretends to be a dog, and Charley takes her for a walk. They love to play chase and hide-and-seek, and I can see already how they are going to combine their Wonder Twin Powers and use them to plot against us! Here they are playing “Kitchen.” Flora was a surly waitress named Flo and Charley was a hash slinger named Chuck.

Friday, February 19th, 2010V-Day Cupcakes
Friday, February 12th, 2010The kids missed out on their Valentine’s Day parties at school — Charley caught a tummy bug and had to stay home — but we still made cupcakes and valentines to share with friends. Flora picked the cupcake colors (pink cupcakes with pink and purple frosting), I picked the decorations (conversation hearts), and Charley just licked the frosting clean. And it will come as no surprise that Flora picked Disney Princess valentines with pencils and Charley picked Toy Story valentines with lollipops.
And since they had to miss out on the fruits of our labor, we made four special heart shaped cupcakes just for us.
